Good afternoon, everybody.
Good afternoon, Brother Down.
We've been going through the book of Genesis Learning about our God and His great power to create something from nothing.
Genesis 1. 1 says, in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you so much, Lord, for this lesson that you blessed us with today, Lord.
Father, we're so thankful for each and every person that's come here to hear your word today, Father.
And I pray, Lord, that you'll just teach us here today, Lord.
Just let your spirit teach us, Father.
I pray that every ear is attentive to your word, Father, and that you just bless each and every person that's come here today, Lord.
Just teach you today, Father.
We pray, Lord, that you remove the distractions, Lord, and just let your word flow forth here, Lord.
We thank you and love you.
In Jesus' name we pray, Lord.
Amen.
Amen Now only our Creator has the ability to create something from nothing.
Only our God can create something from nothing.
One thing this shows us is that our God is creative.
And another thing this shows us is that in order For him to create the heaven and the earth, he must have been here before the heaven and the earth were created.
You can't create something that has already been created, folks.
Holy God.
God was here before the heaven and the earth were created.
Now in verse 3 we learn that God speaks.
Sure.
But yeah.
Verse in Genesis 1 3 says, and God said Let there be light and there was light.
God's voice is very powerful and when he speaks, things get done.
Now in verse 4 we learn that God sees.
Genesis 1:4 says, and God saw the light That it was good.
And God divided the light from the darkness.
Something I want you to learn and learn well.
And take this knowledge with you, please.
God sees.
If you think that God is only seeing what your neighbor is doing And not what you were doing too.
You are fooling yourself, my friend.
Amen.
Before you do something, think to yourself Is this going to be okay in the eyes of God?
We also learn that God separates things.
Because we see that God divided the light from the darkness.
And in verse 5, we learn that God gives names to things.
Genesis 1, 5, and God called the light day, and the darkness he called night.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.
In God's word, God gives names.
And in some instances, God changes names.
Looking ahead in Genesis 32, 28.
After wrestling with who I believe is Christ, God in the flesh, Jacob will not let go.
And you know, folks, this is how we need to be as well.
Once you get your arms around Christ, folks.
Never let go.
And I'm so grateful that God blesses you with the strength to hold on.
When you can't hold on, he's holding on to you.
Don't ever lose the sight of that.
Jacob held on, and he had his name changed.
And we will get to who he is and learn more about him when we get further along in the book of Genesis, God willing.
But for now, we are looking at God changing names.
And I cannot express to you how thankful that I am that God has changed my name from unsaved to saved.
Genesis 32. 28 says, and he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel.
For as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Now in verse 5 of Genesis, we also learn that day one has been completed.
Because the end of verse 5 says, and the evening and the morning were the first day.
The countdown to a new heaven and a new earth has begun.
Will you be a part of that new creation?
Verse 6 in Genesis chapter 1, and this is where we're going to begin our new study today.
Says, and God said, there God speaking again.
And God said Let there be a firmament in the middle in the firmament in the midst of the waters and let it divide the waters.
From the waters.
God is speaking again and something is happening If you haven't noticed yet, folks, when God speaks, things happen.
God says, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters.
The word firmament means an expanse or visible arch of the sky.
The word mitz used here comes from the Hebrew word tovet, which means to sever.
God says, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Genesis 1. 7 says, and God made the firmament. and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament, and it was so.
Now here's Something that uh I feel like that's like a smaller has kind of messed up my teaching for today.
We've been blessed with a new whiteboard.
And my idea here was I was going to bring my new whiteboard because I have it all put together now.
I got it put together.
I was going to bring it today.
And I was gonna draw my attempting of drawing.
And I was going to draw the firmament from the firmament and draw the arch in the sky and show you What I believe that means.
But my problem happened this morning when we realized That the whiteboard's too big to go in the car.
So I didn't get to bring the whiteboard, but my plan is sometime this week or next or this Saturday coming up, God willing, I'm gonna load it up in my pickup And I'm gonna bring it up here so we can have for next Sunday.
God will.
But I was gonna show where the firmament It would have been so much easier to show up and wanting one for a long time now.
And God's grace has blessed us with one.
And uh we have one now, but I've just got to get it up here now But I apologize for that, but maybe next week I can show the firmament, how the waters are divided, and it shows the arch in the sky and all of that.
That was my plan.
But For now, we're just going to try to imagine it if we can.
So we got a firmament means an expanse or a visible arch of the sky.
So we have the sky here And remember, God hasn't made dry land yet.
He just made the heaven and the earth.
Just because it says earth don't mean dry land.
We have the heavens and we have the earth.
Now it's water.
We have water.
And the word mist used here comes from the Hebrew word tallvek, which means to sever.
So God is going to sever the waters.
And he's going to put part of it up in the sky and part of it he's going to leave.
That's water's on the earth.
I wish I could have brought my Lord.
But maybe next week we can get it.
Psalms 104 verse 1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, O Lord my God, thou art very great.
Thou art clothed with honor and majesty, verse 2, who coverest thyself with light and with a garment, who stretches out the heavens.
Like a curtain.
When he puts that firmament up in the sky, he's stretching it out like a curtain.
Ah Psalms 19. 1 says to the chief musician, a psalm of David.
David wrote, the heavens Declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork.
Now remember firmament means an arch, a visible arch of the sky, an expanse.
Psalms 33, 6, by the word of the Lord were the heavens made.
Remember in verse 1, God created in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, there's the Lord speaking again, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth He gathereth the waters of the sea together as in heap.
He layeth up the death in storehouses Let all the earth fear the Lord, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
For he spake, and it was done.
He commanded and it stood fast.
God spoke, and it was done.
Did you know that God can only speak the truth?
God can only speak the truth.
Who would want to serve a God that wouldn't lie to you?
I wouldn't.
I sure don't want to.
But if you don't know Christ as your Savior, That's what you're doing.
That's what you're doing.
1 John 2. 22 says, who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
He is Antichrist that denieth the Father and the Son.
Whosoever, whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father, but he that acknowledgeth the Son Hath the Father also.
God cannot and will not ever lie, folks.
The apostle Paul said in Titus 1:1 through 2, Paul is a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect.
And the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness in hope of eternal life Isn't that what everybody wants?
Eternal life?
I do.
Which God that cannot lie.
Promised before the world began.
Before this world was ever created, folks.
God promised eternal life Before this whole world began, folks, God has promised eternal life to you by the acknowledging of the truth.
When you agree with God that his son died on the cross for your sins, you are confessing to God that he is right and you are in need of his forgiveness that only he can give.
Romans 10, 8 says, but what saith it?
The word is nigh to thee, even in thy mouth.
And in thy heart.
That is the word of faith, which we preach.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Amen.
Jesus said in Matthew 10, 32.
This is Jesus time.
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men Him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
But on the flip side of that coin, folks Jesus says, but whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father, which is in heaven.
I believe that the greatest sin that you can commit, folks, is the sin of unbelief.
Every sin you have ever committed has been forgiven by the death of God's dear beloved Son on the cross.
But for you not to believe, that is you saying God is a liar.
And at your day of judgment, you will be judged guilty for unbelief and sentenced to spend eternity with all the other souls who have you refused the love of God.
A verse that I quote a lot.
He that believeth on him is not condemned.
But he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Back in the book of Genesis chapter 1 verse 8, we read Genesis 1. 8, and God called the firmament Heaven.
Remember the firmament.
It's up in the sky.
God called the firmament heaven.
And the evening and the morning were the second day.
We will get into this first a little deeper next week, God willing.
But I want you to see here the second day of this world has now gone by in our study.
As we think about all our days that have gone by for us, I hope that you have had a day that you have put your faith in the only one who can give you eternal life.
With the one who has created the heaven and the earth.
If you have not, Jesus said in John 14, 6.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No man cometh unto the Father but by me.
Now if you believe that you are agreeing with God.
If you do not believe that, you're calling God a liar.
Simple, truth, and easy to understand.
I hope you agree with God, folks, because the reward of agreeing with Him is better than the reward of not. agreeing with him.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for this time that you brought us together, Lord, to share your word, Father.
I pray, Lord, that the people were pointed to Jesus, Father.
I pray that you were glorified here today, Lord.
I pray, Lord, if there's one here that doesn't know Christ as a Savior, Father, you would draw them to the cross, Lord, and that they would heed that draw and come to the cross and see Christ, Lord.
Show them Jesus, Lord, dying for their sins, Father.
Show them that there is forgiveness through the cross of Christ, Lord.
And there is a heaven waiting for them, Lord, to be with you.
Lord, we thank you so much, Lord, for each and every person that's come here today, Lord, to hear your word and Father.
Lord, we want to thank you for the blessings that you bestow upon us father thank you for the white board that you blessed us with Lord I pray Lord that we can use it Lord to to help teach your word father just use that Lord to teach your word Lord We thank you for the psalm books that you blessed us with and the place to set our notes and our psalm books and our Bibles, Lord.
We just thank you for all the blessings that you bestow upon us, Lord.
Thank you, Lord.
Thank you so much for the people that come to help, Lord.
And we thank you for Brother Ray standing in for Brother Larry today, Lord.
Pray for Brother Larry and his wife, Lord, and pray for their help, Lord, to improve, Lord.
According to your will, Father.
Lord, we thank you, Lord, for each and every person that's come, Lord.
And those that tune in to watch, Father, we pray, Lord, that you'll bless each and every one of them, Lord.
Thank you.
We pray for the caregivers that are here, Father.
And Lord, we want to pray, Lord, that they'll care for these folks, Lord, the way you want them to be cared for Let those who are fed-ridden, Lord, and can't get out of bed, Lord, not be alone, Father.
Let them know that you're there with them, Father Father.
We thank you so much, Lord, for all that you do, Lord.
For all you do is good, Lord.
We pray that your perfect will be accomplished in our lives, Father.
We pray, Lord, that you'll help us stay back in the stage, Lord.
We thank you and love you so much, Father.
And in Jesus' name we pray today, Lord.
Amen
