Let's pray right quick.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for each and every person that's come, Lord, to hear your word and talk today, Father.
Lord, we just pray. that you just remove the distractions here, Lord.
Let each and every person that has ears to hear, Father, let them hear and learn.
Father, teach us here today, Father.
Allow your Spirit to teach you today, Lord.
We thank you for each and every person that's faithful to come, Lord, and all the new people that have come, Lord, to hear your word, Father.
Father, for sure, thank you so much, Lord Monday.
Encouragement, they are each and every one of us, Lord.
We thank you and we love you.
In Jesus' name, Lord, we pray amen.
Amen.
All right.
So we'll all pray again before we get gone.
This is just, it's really.
To be totally honest with you folks, this is the biggest, well, pretty much the biggest crowd we've had since I've been around that.
All right, we'd like to start off with, my name is Doug Sexton, in case somebody's new and y'all haven't met me yet, but we always start off by saying good afternoon, everyone.
We have been studying the book of Genesis going verse by verse and last week we stopped at verse 27 of chapter 1 which has brought us to day six in the history of God creating the heavens and the earth and everything that is contained within.
Y'all remember the very first verse?
In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
Yes, don't let nobody tell you any difference, folks.
This is truth right here.
Now last week in verse 26 and 27 we learned that God created mankind in His own image.
And in verse 26, God uses the words us and our to describe himself.
And I believe that is because our God is in three persons.
He is one God consisting of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Or you can say Holy Spirit if you wouldn't like.
God's Word uses both.
So I imagine it's okay if you and I do also.
Let's go back and read verses 26 and 27 to help us stay in context.
And we will jump right into verse 28 as well and begin our lesson for today.
So if you have your Bibles open and you want to read along with us, we'll be in Genesis chapter 1, and we're going to start reading in verse 27.
And God said, let us make man in our image after our likeness. and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth So God created man in his own image.
In the image of God created he him.
Male and female created he them.
And God blessed them.
And God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply.
And replenish the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Now I said, don't be surprised we pray again, so let's pray again.
Heavenly Father, we sure thank you so much, Lord, for this lesson that you have blessed us with here today, Father.
I pray, Lord, that you are glorified hereby, Lord.
I pray, Lord, that the saints are fed here today, Lord, and that the lost are appointed to Jesus Christ, Father.
Open the eyes of those who are blind, Lord.
Teach us here today, Father.
We love you and we thank you.
You so much, Lord, for each and everything you do.
And in Jesus' name, Lord, we pray.
Amen.
All right.
Verse 28 says, and God blessed them.
The Hebrew word used here for the word blessed is bah rock, ba-rock, and it means to kneel.
To kneel.
The word kneel, not brother kneel, but kneel means to bend a knee and rest upon it.
And it can also mean to bend both knees and rest upon them.
This gives us the idea of showing respect or reverence.
When God created mankind, he blessed them.
And I think it is a crying shame that we do not return the respect and reverence.
Back to God like we should, as often as we should.
God loves you so much.
And even those who don't think about their Maker at all, God still thinks about them and loves them.
Jesus said in Matthew chapter 5, verses 43 through 45, this is Jesus talking.
He says, ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, love your enemies.
Bless them that curse you.
Do good to them that hate you.
And pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.
For he maketh his son to rise on the evil And on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
The just, those who have accepted the death of God's dear Son as their sacrifice for their sin debt paid in full and adopted into the family of the forgiven of God.
And the unjust, those who have shunned God's blessing of forgiveness of sins through faith in Christ Both get to enjoy the worldly creations of our God.
But only the just will be blessed with the heavenly creation and fellowship with our God.
Only the just will be blessed with that.
The just and the unjust both right now get to enjoy the world and creation that God has blessed us with.
God has kneeled down and he has blessed mankind with all that we have about us.
And there are people that walk around.
Don't think nothing about it.
They shun that.
They don't care.
But I'm going to tell you right now, there's going to come a day when they will care.
I promise you.
God's word says so.
Psalms 37, 18 through 22.
The Lord knoweth the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever.
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs.
They shall consume into smoke, shall they consume away.
Now what causes smoke, folks?
Fire.
Fire.
Causes smoke.
The wicked borrow it.
And payeth not again.
But the righteous showeth mercy and giveth.
For such as be blessed of him.
Shall inherit the earth, and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
God blesses each and every person He has created and He has blessed you with the ability to choose either life or death Deuteronomy 30, 19 through 20.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life. and death.
Blessing and cursing.
I find it pretty interesting here how he has life and blessing and death and cursing.
Kind of in the same order there.
Therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live.
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him, for he is thine life.
And the length of thy days, that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord swear to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
What land was that?
This has a land fall with milk and honey, wooden it.
Woo!
The land flowing with milk and honey.
Yes.
God blessed them as we look back at verse 28, the book of Genesis, chapter 1.
And God said unto them, Be fruitful. and multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it.
The word fruitful is translated from the Hebrew word pahra.
Paul Roth and it means to bear fruit or bring forth.
I have used my dad's fruit trees many times in illustrations So this time we will use my dad's tomato plants as illustrations.
My dad plants a garden every year.
And every year he likes to plant tomatoes.
Now when he plants those tomato plants, he plants those plants in order for them to grow and bring forth what?
Tomatoes.
He plants tomatoes to bring forth tomatoes.
That is their fruit.
When daddy plants a tomato plant, the fruit of that plant is tomatoes, okay?
That is their fruit.
God told the male and the female to be fruitful.
That means that the male and the female were to be fruitful. and produce other males and other females.
They were not meant to produce tomatoes.
Because God did not design them to produce tomatoes.
God designed the male and female to be fruitful.
Not the male and the male and not the female and the female.
God designed the male and the female to be fruitful and nurture and raise children.
That is God's design, folks, and that is the way it was supposed to be until sin entered into the world.
Now when my dad's tomato plants start bringing forth fruit, they start increasing.
Which brings us to our next word, which is multiply.
Multiply.
God told the male and the female to be fruitful and multiply.
This word is translated from the Hebrew word ra-ba. which means to increase.
Would my dad's tomato plants start multiplying or increasing production of tomatoes if he did not pick them and remove them from his garden?
I think that sometimes he would have so many that they would fill up his garden space because my dad plants a lot of plants when he plants tomatoes.
My mom will bring buckets and buckets of tomatoes to church that my dad sends up there.
I mean more tomatoes than the stands can sell.
Dad sends all kinds of tomatoes up there.
I go by and get tomatoes.
My uncle gets, I mean, tomatoes out of your ears.
All kinds of tomatoes.
This is the idea of the next word here in our text.
God says, be fruitful.
Multiply and replenish the earth.
The word replenish comes from a Hebrew word that gives us the idea of to fill.
To fill.
Isaiah 45, 18, For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens, God Himself that formed the earth and made it, He hath established it.
He created it not in vain.
He formed it to be inhabited.
I am the Lord, and there is none else.
In the beginning God wanted mankind to fill the earth and this is one thing that mankind has not failed at.
Only because God allows children to be born despite those who think it's okay to stop the birth of a child.
Now I am not going to get into the debate of abortion today, but I will say this.
Forgiveness.
Can be found regardless of the mistakes that we have made because Jesus Christ died for every one of them.
So God said, be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.
This word sub-do can be used in a negative way or a positive way, as with many other words.
In the negative way, it means to tread down or disregard, which is the way many people treat this world.
They throw their trash out along the highway or on the back roads, not caring about where it ends up or that it may go into our water supply.
They pollute the air we breathe with things.
They burn and the toxic fumes that come from the chemicals that are produced.
They don't care.
They tread down or disregard the earth that God created and blessed mankind with.
Now when the word subdue is used in a positive way, it means to conquer or bring into subjection.
When my dad is getting ready to plant tomatoes, the ground in his garden has to be prepared before he goes out and sticks tomato plants in the ground.
My dad will go out to his garden area and prepare the ground by tilling up the grass or weeds that may be growing in his garden area.
He then will make rows to plant the tomatoes and dig holes for them.
He is subduing the earth or bringing it into subjection in order for him to have a nice garden area for his tomatoes.
Dad is subduing the earth in a positive way and the fruit that he reaps from doing so is then shared with others in a positive way.
Whereas the fruit that was shared by those who subdue the earth in a negative way is shared with others in a negative way.
God wants mankind to be responsible caregivers over all his creation, but sin has taught mankind to just not care about the things of God.
And that is why there are so many people in the world today that are lost and just don't care because of sin.
As we finish out verse 28, God goes on to say, and have dominion Over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God bless mankind with dominion over these things of the earth.
We talked about the word dominion in a previous study.
I love the beginning of this verse.
And God bless them.
How wonderful.
Folks, if you don't know Jesus Christ as your Savior, I want to say, and God bless you.
Jesus Christ came.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
That whosoever what believe shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
God bless you.
Each and every one of us are sinners.
Everybody is a sinner.
And I want to tell you, the only way to be forgiven for your sins is through faith in Jesus Christ who died for you.
Amen.
Why?
Because God blessed you.
God blessed me.
He that believeth on him is not condemned.
But he that believeth not is condemned already.
Why?
Because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
God bless you with a way to be forgiven, folks.
If you don't know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you're running out of time.
Yes.
You're running out of time.
The time is today, folks.
Seek you first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
While you still can.
If you close your eyes tonight, folks, and you don't know Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Now I'm not trying to scare you.
I'm telling you facts.
You close your eyes tonight without knowing Jesus Christ is your Savior.
And you don't open your eyes this side of the earth in the morning.
You're going to die in your sins.
And you're going to be cast in a lake of fire.
The Bible says there will be awe, torment, pain.
Gnashing your teeth.
It's going to be bad.
But God has blessed you with a choice.
You can either choose life.
Or you can choose death.
If you don't know Jesus Christ, folks, I implore you, please, please think about it before it's too late.
I've done my job, I've told the truth, and I've told you how to be straight.
I can't do it for you.
Boy, I wish I could.
I do wish I could.
If you knew the Savior that I knew, you wouldn't be waiting.
But if you don't know Jesus, folks, and you want to talk about Jesus, please get with me.
I'll be more than glad to sit here and we'll open this up together and we'll sit down and we'll let the good Lord show you Jesus.
He's the only one that can open your eyes to Christ.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for each and every person that's come, Father.
It's such a blessing, Lord, to see each and every person, Lord.
Father, we pray if there's any lost here, Father, that you will just draw them to the cross, Father, and that they'll come to that cross and you'll show them Jesus Christ, Father.
Lord, we sure thank you, Lord, for another day.
We sure thank you for the lives that you've blessed us with, Father, and we just pray that your perfect will is accomplished in each and every person's life that's here today.
Father.
And all those who watch on the internet, Father, we pray for them as well, Lord.
We thank you for your Holy Spirit, Father.
We thank you for your precious word.
And, Lord, we sure thank you for Jesus Christ, Lord.
Thank you for Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, Lord, that taketh away the sins of the world, Father.
Lord, we want to pray for the caregivers that are here, Father, and we just pray, Lord, that you'll help them care for each and every person that's here, Lord, the way you want them to be cared for.
We thank you, Lord, for sending those who you want to be here, Father.
And we thank you, Lord, that we don't have to throw on picture parties.
Fun slides and movie night and all that stuff to draw.
You just send the ones you want to come, Father.
And I just pray, Lord, you'll keep bringing me back and sharing your word, Father.
Lord, we thank you and we love you so much, Lord.
We pray that you'll bless each and every person that you're today.
Thank you, Lord, for all that you do.
Lord, for all you do is good.
And in Jesus' name, Lord, we pray.
Amen.
