Well all right, good afternoon everyone. Good afternoon. Good day. You did good young man. I heard you singing. That was good. Good job. He helped sing up there. He needs to sing it in his church. Oh does he really? Fantastic. Fantastic. That's a good view. All right. Here we go. So last week we stopped in the book of Genesis in chapter 1 and verse 14. Today we will read verse 14 to help us stay in context, but we're going to go ahead and read all the way down to verse 18. And we'll start our lesson for today. So, Genesis 1:14. Has everybody's got it there? It said, And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night. and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. And it was so. And God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also, and God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. Let's pray, Heavenly Father. Oh, thank you so much, Lord, for the wonderful fellowship that we have here, Father. Thank you for sending the ones that you want to be here, Lord, and to have fellowship Lord. Thank you for those who come to hear your word, Father. And Lord, as we get into your word, Lord, we want to thank you for this lesson that you blessed us with, Lord. And we pray that you are glorified here, Lord, and that Jesus is magnified. Father. Just edify the saints right now, Lord, and point the lost to Jesus Christ. We thank you and we love you so much, Lord. Thank you for your word. And in Jesus' name we pray, Lord. Amen. Amen. Amen. Okay, so the lights in the firmament of heaven have jobs assigned to them. They divide the day from the night, and they give light upon the earth. The signs, the seasons, days, and years are our responsibility to recognize. I don't believe the lights in the firmament of heaven really care too much about the signs, the seasons. days and years. They just have to make sure they keep dividing the day from the night and they give life upon the earth. That is the job God gave them. Our job is to recognize the signs, seasons, and days and years. Now I want you to recognize here folks the seasons, days, and years, what do they have in common? They all change, don't they? They all change. The seasons change, the days change, and the years change. The signs that God gives us in His Word do not change. All of the signs that God gives us in His Word will remain the same. They all remain the same. You can go back and read this next week, and it's going to be the same word of God as it is the week after. You could have gone back 20 years ago and read it. It's the same signs God gives us as today. The signs that show. We see here. We have calendars we look at to know what day and year it is. And here in Texas, all you have to do is look outside to understand what season it is. We pay attention to those things because they affect us. If we have a doctor's appointment, we want to know what time, what day, and what year. And the way doctor's appointments have come lately, what year is very important. I've noticed if I try to make a doctor's appointment, it's like eight months out, six months out. Five months out. I don't know what's happened with that, but that's what's happening. We can't get you into next year, Mr. Sexton. All right, if I don't die before then, I'll be there. I'll try to make that appointment. We want to know what time, what day, what year that doctor's appointment is. We pay attention to the seasons. Days and years because they affect us. But we better start paying attention to the signs as well. Because before long, the time Before long, the time for signs will be all over. And for those who did not see the signs, it will be too late. Jesus says in Luke chapter 21 verses 25 through 28 Luke chapter 21 verses 25 through 28 And there shall be signs there shall be signs in the sun In the moon and in the stars, and upon the earth, distress of nations that is as The word distress gives us the idea of anxiety, which means fear of what might happen or worry. With perplexity, which gives us the idea of confusion or doubt. People of the earth will be facing a dilemma and they will not know what choice to make. Kind of like knowing which candidate to vote for because they are all evil. You're in the dilemma when you go to vote for it, folks. You don't know which one to vote for, which one's not live to you the most. Which one do I choose? The sea and the waves roaring. And it's going to be unlike other roarings. Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass. Then look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh. For those who can't see the signs, the return of our Savior will mean worry and fear. But for those who know the saving grace of our God, You should be resting in peace of knowledge, of forgiveness, and rescue from this sinful old world. Jesus said in John 14, 27 and 28, peace. I leave with you my peace I give unto you None as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye love me, ye would rejoice. Because I say I go unto the Father, for my Father is greater than I. Our Heavenly Father is the one who gives us signs. Seasons, days, and years. And we should be paying attention and thanking our God for each and every one we are blessed with. Now let's look at something else here in verse 16. I want to look at that. Genesis 1:16. And God made two great lights. The greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. Why did God make the greater light? To rule over the day. Why did God make the lesser light? To rule over the night. Do you read anywhere our verse says he made these lights to rule over mankind? Me neither. It doesn't say that. Then why do people worship them? When you go to reading further on in God's Word, you'll see where the heathen nations were worshiping Belial and Baal and all these false gods. Some of those names means the sun and the moon and the stars, all that they were worshiping the creation instead of the creator. Then why do people worship them? Somebody might say, Brother Doug, people don't worship the sun or moon or stars anymore. That was made for those people back then. Did you know that when you are reading or listening to your horoscope, that is exactly what you are doing? That is exactly what you are doing. You're taking the time that God has blessed you with and wasting it on some false doctrine that mankind has devised by the inspiration of Satan. to take your attention away from the one who created the sun and moon and stars. You are worshiping the creation And not the Creator, by allowing the creation to guide you instead of God, the Creator. That is what a false idol is. Anything that you worship more than God is a false idol. Anything other than God Himself, who consists of three persons. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost is a false idol, and we should be going to Him and not a horoscope for guidance. Amen. Listen to what God says in Exodus 20 verse 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me And that God's is a small little baby G God's. That is our good Heavenly Father capital G-O-D God. That is a false God. When you see a God with a small G in the Bible, that is not our one true God because He's always a capital G. God. The sun, moon, and stars were not created to be worshipped. But to give light upon the earth and rule over the night and the day, not rule over you and I. That is our Lord's job. And my friend, our Lord, never fails at his job. We are either serving our Lord or we are not, and we need to understand that. When the false God of this world tried to get Jesus to bow down to him and worship him, we read in the book of Matthew in chapter 4, verses 8 and 10. This is after the devil had taken Jesus up and tried to get him to sin. After Jesus had fasted for 40 days. 40 house and he was going through these trials. Matthew 4:8 again The devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them. And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him Then saith Jesus unto him get thee hence Satan for it is written Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Boy, I love it when Jesus talks to it. Amen. Wait a minute, just oh, that's great. Thank you, Lord. Put away your sun, moon, and star worship, folks. Put it away. If you're reading your horoscope for guidance, folks. Give that mess up. Turn it over to the Lord and see where that takes you. It's going to take you a lot further than that old horse goes, I promise you. I promise you. Psalms 100. Chapter 100 2 through 5. Serve the Lord with gladness. Serve the Lord with gladness. Folks, when we come in here, we get together, we sing, and we're having joy and fun and fellowship. What is that? That's serving the Lord with gladness. Amen. I'm not up here frowning, am I? Woo! Serve the Lord with gladness. I'm blessed to be here. Amen. He says, come before his presence with what, Brother Lady? Woo! Sing! That's why we did it. Come before the Lord, before his presence with Satan. Know ye that the Lord, that's capital L-R-D, He is God with a capital G-O-D. It is He that hath made us. And not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving. And into his courts with praise. Be thankful unto him and bless his name. Ha ha! That's right. For the Lord is good. Keep me smiling. The Lord is good. His mercy is everlasting. And his truth endureth through all generations. After the sun and moon and stars are all gone, folks, God's mercy will be lasting forever. Lasting forever. And finally, as we wrap up in verse 19 of Genesis chapter 1, Genesis 1:19. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. The fourth day. The days of God's creation have made it through day four now in our study. God willing, if we get to meet together again next Sunday. We will get to start on day five of God's creation and share in some more of the word of God together again. Thank y'all for coming to hear the word of God. I can't tell y'all how much each and every one of y'all are encouraging. To me, thank y'all so much for coming. Heavenly Father, thank you so much, Lord, for your precious word, Lord. It is such a blessing, Lord. Thank you, Lord, for being here with us, Lord, for we know we're wondering when two or more gathered in your name. You are there with us, Lord. And we thank you so much, Father, for Jesus Christ, Lord. And we want to pray for those who don't know Christ as their Savior, Lord. Oh, Father, we pray that you'll just draw them to the cross, Lord. And Father, I pray that they'll heed that draw and they'll come to Christ, Father. Lord, we just pray today that the saints were edified, Lord, and that the lost were appointed to Jesus. I want to pray for each and every person that's come here today, Lord, and we pray that you'll bless each and every person here today. Lord, we thank you for Brother Ray, lead singing, Lord, and want to pray for Brother Larry and his family, Lord, and their health issues, Lord. We just pray for each and every person here today, Lord, pray that your perfect will will be done in their lives, Father. Well, as the camera ladies and mine as well, Lord. And we thank you for safe passage here, Father. And Lord, for all the people that are leaving, we pray for safe passage for them, Lord, going to their destinations, Father. Today. Lord, I pray for the caregivers that are here, Father. Lord, we pray, Lord, that you'll bless them with the ability to care for these people here the way you want them to be cared for, Lord. Just let them be an extension of your love, Father. We thank you for your mercy and your grace, Lord, and we thank you for the one that took all place. In Jesus' name, Lord, we pray amen. Amen.
