Episode Transcript
All right, good afternoon, everyone.
We have completed day six.
Of God creating the heavens and the earth and all their inhabitants in our study so far as we have been going through the book of Genesis.
Verse by verse, starting from verse 1 in chapter 1 and not skipping over any verses.
Now, the last time she okay?
Come on.
Now the last time we were here, we stopped in verse 31 of chapter 1 in the book of Genesis.
So to get us started today in our study, I will start with that verse in order to remind us where we left off.
And I will go ahead and read verse 1. of chapter 2 as well.
So here we go.
Genesis chapter 1 verse 31 and we're going to go ahead and read into chapter 2 verse 1.
And God saw everything that he had made.
And behold, it was very good.
And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
This is chapter 2, verse 1.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for your precious word, Father.
Thank you, Lord, for each and every person that's come here today, Lord, to hear your precious word, Lord.
I pray that you just let your Spirit teach us here today, Father.
I pray each and every ear is attentive to your word, Father, and that we learn here today, Lord.
We pray, Lord, that you'll remove the distractions, limit those distractions, Lord, and just. .
Let every ear be attended to your word, Father.
We thank you and we love you so much, Father.
Thank you again for Jesus.
And in this name we pray.
Amen.
Amen.
Okay.
So.
And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.
Now, at my place of employment, part of my responsibilities include training people to do what I do.
I want them to produce good quality products for our customers.
After they have completed the task that they have been working on, I tell them to step back.
And look at what you have done.
Look for any flaws or things that you did that you could fix before you send your work down the line.
Try and find any imperfections in what you did before you allow your work to become something someone else has to fix.
I think this is what God did here in chapter 1, verse 31 of Genesis.
But God had no imperfections or flaws of his work too soon.
God saw everything that He had made.
He looked at what He had created from the very beginning and He did not see any flaws or imperfections.
Because our verse here says, it was very good.
It was very good from the beginning because God created it that way.
Now, as we finish the last part of this verse, we read, and the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Now that's where we left off last week.
And as we move on to cha, I mean last week, week before, I'm sorry.
We had an outbreak last week, so Brother Doug didn't make it.
And as we move on to chapter 2, verse 1, we read.
This is Genesis chapter 2, verse 1.
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Did you know that the Bible was not originally written with chapter or verse breaks?
If you didn't know that, you know it now.
The Bible was not originally written with chapter or verse breaks.
Each book was written as a continuous, uninterrupted text on scrolls or early manuscripts.
When God was giving Moses the Ten Commandments, he did not tell Moses, now be sure and put thou shalt not steal in the book of Exodus in chapter 20 at verse 15.
God did not tell Moses that.
No, God did not tell Moses that.
God's word was originally written with no chapter or verse breaks.
These breaks were put in God's word by man with the intention for easier referencing to help the readers locate specific passages. stories or quotes more quickly without reading through a whole book in order to find what they are looking for.
Now with that said, in my opinion, I think that this is not a very good place for a break since our scripture here is still in context. with what God was doing from the start of verse 1 in chapter 1.
I think that this verse here in chapter 2 could have just as easily been a continuation of chapter 1.
All the way down to verse 3, because these verses are dealing with the same context as chapter 1.
And they should have not been separated, but included in the same chapter.
Now that is my opinion.
Maybe one of these days I will be able to ask why chapters 2 started with this verse and not with the fourth verse.
Verse, but we're going to look at it regardless.
So upon the completion of day six, the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Now, chapter 2 verse 1, we see this word thus.
Thus, did y'all see that?
Thus.
When I looked up this word, I found something very interesting to me because I love learning new things.
I never would have guessed that one of the means of the word plus is I'm just checking her off.
And then there's no shoes on the Yeah.
It was it was it just went down because it's been longer.
Yeah.
But I'm still gonna see it.
No.
I'm just I gotta go around and then say we'll have everyone thinks.
But now.
I'm gonna go back to it.
I'll be back with some.
That's alright.
You're alright, man.
All right, now when I looked up this word thus, T-A-U-S, thus.
I found something very interesting to me because I love learning new things and I wanted to share this with y'all so maybe somebody else would want to learn I never would have guessed that one of the meanings of the word thus is the resin Of the spruce fir, so called from its use as making sense.
Another definition for the word thus is In this or that manner, on this wise, referring to something now here or happening, or pointing to something already done, or to something that is to follow.
Since our verse says that the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them, I believe that the word thus is pointing us back to something that is already done.
And that is why I think that this verse could have stayed with chapter one and not been separated with another chapter.
I guess the point that I'm trying to make is just because there are chapter breaks, that doesn't necessarily mean that a whole new topic is beginning.
Now as we read on here in chapter 2 and verse 1, we read, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them.
Now, we're going to come back and we're going to look at this word finish, but I want to do that towards the end.
I want to go ahead and let's look at this word host.
He says, and all the host of them.
I believe the word them is referring to the heavens and the earth, which God says through the writer Moses. were finished and all the host of them.
The word host is translated from a Hebrew word that I am not even going to attempt to try to pronounce.
Not with my Hebrew speaking.
I don't know, no.
I ain't going to try to pronounce that one.
But the meaning gives us the idea of a mass gathering of persons.
Four things like an army ready for battle.
If we were to look at the heavens at night, we would see a mass gathering of war.
That's right.
We would see a mass gathering of stars.
This is part of the host of the heavens.
1 Chronicles 27, 23, but David took not the number of them from 20 years old and under, because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars.
Of the heavens.
Now that is a whole different study, but I wanted you to see that there is a mass gathering of stars in the heavens.
Luke 2:8.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Angels.
Angels are part of the host of heaven as well.
Angels.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David the Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you.
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host.
Praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men.
And it came to pass as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem and see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
The angels are part of the host of heaven, and there are many of them.
After Peter cut off an ear of one of the soldiers trying to arrest Jesus, Jesus told Peter in Matthew 26, 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels.
Now from what I read, a typical Roman legion was made up of around 5,000 soldiers and a few hundred cavalrymen.
If we were to do the math, 12 times 5,300 would be 63,600.
That's a lot of angels.
That is a mass of angels.
That is a host of angels.
Now that is a mass gathering of angels, or you can say host of angels.
Now your host of earth would be what we have previously read in our study here in the book of Genesis.
The plants, herbs, trees, fowls, animals, and mankind.
These would be considered your hosts, and I want you to know that whether you agree or not, God is in command of all these things, including you.
Now when you agree with God that he is the one in control and you humble yourself and submit to his rule over you, you will have more peace within yourself than you do running from him.
All you have to do is believe that God so loved you that He gave you the sacrifice for forgiveness through the death of His Son, Jesus Jesus Christ.
If you know this verse, say it with me, folks.
John 3:18.
He that believeth on him is not condemned.
But he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Now quickly as we start to close, let's look at another word in our verse from today here in chapter 2 and verse 1, which says. .
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them.
So we've looked at them, we've looked at host.
I want to look at stuff.
I want to look at the word finished.
I want to look at the word finished.
The word finish used here is translated from the Hebrew word call.
Callah.
And means, what do y'all think the word finished means?
To end, or complete, or accomplish.
On the sixth day, God ended his work of creating the heavens and the earth.
It was complete.
He accomplished what he set out to do yesterday.
My thermostat went out in my old pickup truck.
As I was driving to do my morning tasks that I must do on Saturday, this causes your engine in your vehicle to get hotter than it should.
So I limped it along until I got home where I could work on it and get it replaced.
After replacing my thermostat, I put all the parts back on my engine that I had to remove.
In order to replace the thermostat.
Now, the job still wasn't completed.
I had to refill the radiator with coolant.
I had to check leaks, check for leaks, and I had to test drive my old truck before I could say it was finished.
Praise God after I've done all of this that my truck did not get overheated when I test drove.
And so far I have not seen any leaks.
So I can say that it is finished.
My job of installing a new thermostat in my truck is complete for now until it fails again.
That thermostat is a man-made part that will eventually fail just like the one that I had to change.
Now when God came in the flesh as Christ to be crucified for our sins, what he did will never fail.
It has been done and finished.
Jesus said in John 17:4, I have glorified thee on the earth.
I have finished The work which thou gavest me to do.
Christ fulfilled all of the laws of God the Father and never once failed.
That is something none of us have ever done.
We have all failed like that old thermostat in my truck that I had to replace.
That thermostat was not perfect just like us because if it was it would have never failed just like us None of us can keep all of God's laws perfectly, but Christ did.
John 19, 28 through 30.
After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith I thirst.
Jesus is hanging on the cross here, folks.
The words accomplished and fulfilled are the same as to end or to complete.
John 19:29.
Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar, and they filled a sponge with vinegar and put it upon hissook and put it to his mouth.
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished.
And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.
Complete, accomplished, finished, ended.
The word finished used here means to end.
Same meaning as the word used back in Genesis chapter 2 and verse 1.
God finished.
Or ended his work in creating the heavens and the earth, and on the cross Christ finished, or ended his work in giving you a perfect Sacrifice for your sins in order that you may be forgiven of God the Father through your belief.
Jesus said in Mark 1:15.
The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent ye and believe the gospel.
It is finished.
All we're waiting on is for Christ to return again and claim his people.
Amen.
God created the heavens and the earth.
He finished.
Jesus died on the cross for your sins.
It is finished.
God did not need any of our help creating the heavens and the earth.
He did all of that by himself.
Jesus does not need any of your help to be saved.
He did everything for you.
For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves.
It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.
Jesus did it all through all to him I owe.
Jesus gave it all, all to him I owe.
Sin had left the prisons, and he was it white as snow.
That's a song.
Amen.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for your precious word, Father.
Thank you, Lord, for this time of fellowship, Lord.
Just getting into your word, Father, and I pray, Lord, that each and every person here today, Lord, will leave knowing more, Lord, than when they came here.
I pray, Lord, that you taught us here today and that each and every person understood, Father.
Lord, we thank you so much, Lord, for all that you do.
Lord, for all you do is good, Father.
I want to pray, Lord, that you just keep watch over each and every person that's here today, Lord, and bless them, Lord.
Let them know, Lord, that they're not alone with me, Father.
That you're here and you're still working and you're still on the throne, Father.
Amen.
Lord, we'll pray for the caregivers that are here, Father, and that each and every one of them will take care of these people, Lord, the way you want them to be taken care of.
Care of Lord, let them show them your love, Lord.
Work through them, Lord, and take care of them and show them your love.
We thank you, Father, for all that you do, Lord.
Lord, we pray your perfect will be done in each and every one of our lives here today, Father, and that we accomplish the reason why you put us here, Father.
Lord, we thank you for Brother Ray standing in for Brother Larry, Lord.
We pray for Brother Larry and his family and their situation they're going through now, Lord.
We thank you for the camera lady coming, Lord, and taking care of that.
And just thank you for all that you do, Lord.
In Jesus' name, Lord, we pray.
Amen.
