Episode Transcript
Good afternoon, everybody.
Man, that was some good.
I enjoyed that singing.
Oh.
Now we're gonna ask a good preacher.
Well I'll pray you know.
Uh First thing I want to mention before we get started.
In this song here, sometimes we have songs.
Excuse me, I'm on a cough drop right now.
And some of the words that are in some of these songs are just cringe.
There are some great verses in a lot of these, but some of these songs, it's just some of the words.
This here says, now I feel the sacred flame.
Folks, it's not about feelings, okay?
Feelings change.
If it was about I I heard a preacher talking the other day, I loved this listen, I don't know who it was.
I came in on challenge of it.
He said that folks it's not about feelings.
If it was about feelings, I wouldn't have got up out of bed this morning.
I didn't feel like getting out of bed this morning, but I got up out of bed anyway.
It's not about feelings.
Feelings change.
One minute he says, here I feel the sacred flame.
What happens the next minute when you don't feel the sacred flame?
Does that mean you're not saved?
It's not about feelings.
It's about faith and what Christ did for you on the cross.
Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.
That cannot change.
It's done, it's over with.
Done deal.
There's no feelings involved in that whatsoever.
It's by faith.
We walk by faith, not by sight, okay?
Or by grace are you saved through faith?
And that not of yourselves.
Not of yourselves.
Yourself involves feelings, doesn't it?
Okay, so remember that.
It's not about feelings.
I used to uh sing that alder call when we had that.
And uh I've never gotten that far in the verse.
So I didn't realize it was there.
That's all right.
Nothing called out of the case.
Oh no.
And that's another thing we don't have, altar calls.
That's right.
Yes.
Amen.
You know why we don't have altar calls?
Somebody show me where it says in the Bible about altar calls, having an altar call to be saved.
It doesn't.
It's not in here Nowhere in this in God's Word does it say you must come down an aisle to some steps that a preacher calls an altar.
It's not in there, folks.
You will never hear me preaching on that.
Because it's not in here.
I will never have anybody come down here.
Let me put my hand on you.
Folks, I'm just as big a sinner.
As anybody in this room is not a bigger sinner.
How can I put my hand on you and save you?
I can't.
Jesus Christ is the one that died for our sins.
Not good.
Not some preacher up here.
And that's a whole nother lesson right there.
So let's get back.
Man, we can get going on that.
Let's get on through our lesson here today.
We're gonna keep digging a hole.
Let's just.
Man.
Yes.
Yeah, let's go on with our lesson before I get started on that.
All right.
Thanks.
Good to see everybody here today.
And I pray if you think you're saved because you walk down an altar. where some so-called pastor put his hand on your head and pray for you, folks, please rethink that.
Please rethink that before it's too late.
That's not how we're saved.
Alright.
So good afternoon, everyone.
Good afternoon.
Alright.
So last week we discussed verse one In the first book of Genesis.
Can anyone tell me here today who it is that created the heaven and the earth?
Amen.
Woo!
Praise God.
Thank you, Lord, for teaching us, Father.
Now, God created the heaven and the earth.
Amen.
Now for an added bonus.
Does anyone remember the Hebrew word for God used here in verse 1 of Genesis?
Y'all believe it.
Elohim.
Elohim.
Elohim.
Elohim.
That is plural.
Okay?
It means more than one.
Elohim meaning more than one.
We serve one Almighty, all-knowing, ever-present God, folks, who is in three persons the father the son and the holy spirit in the beginning they created the heaven and the earth let's pray Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for your precious, wonderful word, Lord.
Thank you for your word, Father.
Thank you for showing us things in your word, Lord, and just teach teaching through us, Lord.
Just teach to us here today, Father.
Lord, we thank you so much for each and every person who's come to hear your word, Father.
And Lord, we pray, Lord, that you'll just edify the saints here today, Lord, and point the lost to Jesus.
Father.
We thank you and we love you so much, Lord.
And in Jesus' name today, Lord, we pray, Amen.
Amen.
Okay, so as we start, verse 2 in the book of Genesis, it says And the let's just start the beginning, stay in context.
In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
Verse 2.
And the earth Was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God Move upon the face of the waters.
That's the spirit where the capital is, folks.
That's God's Holy Spirit.
So the beginning of our verse says, and the earth was without form and void.
Our Hebrew definition for the word earth means to be firm.
Remember we covered that in verse 1.
And you see, gives us the idea of the ground.
The ground.
Sure is nice to have the ground, folks.
Have you ever thought about what it would be like if we did not have a farm ground?
If you a lot of people don't think about that, they just get up and go about their day-to-day life running around doing what the God does They never take into consideration that God blessed them with that ground to walk on.
Without that ground to walk on, folks.
We're in bad shape.
Sure would be difficult to stand here today and share God's word with y'all and be able to drive here too.
We wouldn't have no roads to drive on.
I wouldn't be able to stand here.
Y'all wouldn't be able to sit here.
Thank God for the ground.
I thank God that we have a firm place to build a shelter and plant gardens and have all the things that we do that we would not have if our God Had not made the ground.
So in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, and the earth was without form.
The word form Comes from the Hebrew word tohu.
Tohu.
Now I looked that one up and listened to and pronounce it.
So hopefully I got it pretty close.
Tohu And comes from a root word that means to lie waste.
And the word void Comes from the Hebrew word bohu.
Bohu.
It's real similar to the word form, but it means empty.
Empty.
So we have to lie in waste and empty.
So when the earth was formed, we see here that it was barren of anything.
No trees, no grass, just ground.
Can you when I was in my when I was doing this lesson, I couldn't help but think.
Can you imagine how quiet that must have been?
All the stillness, the quietness, where I work at is so loud.
And I sure enjoy when I get times of quietness.
I sure enjoy it.
Everything was calm and still because it was an empty place.
It was without form and void.
Not only was it without form and void, but There was no light in the beginning.
Let's look back at our verse in Genesis chapter 1, verse 2, which says, And the earth was without form and void and darkness. was upon the face of the deep.
The word darkness is translated from the Hebrew word Hosha.
Hosha.
And can mean several different things.
But here I believe it means the dark.
Because God had not sent the light in yet.
Our verse says that darkness was upon the face of the deep.
Now, this is so cool.
I find it very interesting that God uses the word face to describe the deep.
The word deep used here means an abyss as a surging mass of water.
The ocean is described as an abyss.
Have you ever heard that the abyss?
If you were to go down to the very bottom of an ocean and look around you.
And look up, it would be a surging mass of water, wouldn't it?
If you're sitting down at the very bottom of the ocean and you're looking around and you look up, all you see is water.
A surging mass of water.
The deep.
The word surging means swelling and rolling.
When the winds get up, the waves get rolling, and the face of the deep changes.
Doesn't it changes?
When you're looking at the top surface of the water, that is the face of the deep.
Now when those waves get to rolling, they don't look the same, do they?
That face It changes.
Kind of like those feelings we were talking about a while ago.
Those feelings change.
Just like the top of that water will change.
If you take a rock And you walk over to a pond and it's nice and still and you throw that rock in that water changes, don't it?
Just like those feelings do.
Just like those feelings do The top of the water that we see is what I think God is referring to when he says the face of the deep.
The word face used here comes from a Hebrew word that means the part that turns.
That is going to get good.
The part that turns The part that turns.
When we turn our heads, we must turn our faces at the same time, don't we?
You're not going to turn your head without turning your face.
If you can do that, oh man, I would like to sell tickets to show everybody.
Boy.
See every time I turn my head and look over at Brother Ray, my face goes with it.
I look over at Brother Larry, my face goes with my head.
I'm looking at the camera lady, my face is looking at the camera lady We can't turn our face without turning our heads.
The very next line in our verse here in Genesis says, and the Spirit Of God moved upon the face of the water Not only was the Holy Spirit involved with the birth of the world, but God's Holy Spirit is involved in your new birth. as well.
But you have to turn your face to God, folks, and not your backs Jeremiah 32, 33, and they have turned unto me the back and not the face.
Though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.
God tries to teach you, lost sinner.
He tries to reach out.
Each and every lost sheep there is.
And I thank God so much that when he reached out to me, I didn't keep my back to him.
Yes, Lord, I turned my face to the Lord.
I had a changing of the mind.
To change the mind means to repent.
I repented.
I had a change of mind.
I turned to the Lord.
And he saved me.
There is no joy like that, folks, in this whole world that we live in.
Knowing Christ is your Savior is the best joy there is.
Knowing where you're gonna go when you lay this head down for the last time and those eyes do not open the side of heaven Knowing that is the greatest joy in the world.
Proverbs 120 through 33 and I apologize I didn't get that on the paper because I come out with this when I was out there doing my study in the car Wisdom.
Wisdom crieth without.
She utteret her voice in the streets.
She crieth in the chief place of concourse and the openings of the gates in the city.
She uttereth her words, saying, How long ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity?
And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge.
Folks, if you are turning your back on the Lord, you're turning the back on his knowledge.
And the Bible says fools hate knowledge.
That's not Brother Doug's words.
That's God's words.
Fools hate knowledge.
God says, turn you at my reproof.
Turn.
You have to turn your face to the Lord.
Turn you at my reproof.
Behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you.
That is God's Holy Spirit.
Turn to the Lord.
I will make known my words unto you.
Folks, I can sit here and I can tell you all day long what this says.
But until you put your faith in Jesus Christ and you receive the Holy Spirit, you're not going to understand.
You can think intelligently about it, but you can't think out of this about it.
This right here, until God's Spirit dwells with your spirit, I can sit here all day long and tell you, Jesus Christ died for your sins.
And that is not going to prick your heart until you come to the knowledge that Jesus Christ died for your sins and you are forgiven.
And you find the joy in the Lord that's there.
You turn, you repent.
God says, because I have called and ye refuse.
I have stretched out my hand and no man regarded.
But ye have said it not all my counsel and would none of my proof.
You don't want to hear it.
I'm tired of pulling to the cross.
You're fighting me.
You don't want it.
So be it.
I also will laugh at your calamity.
I will mock when your fear cometh, when you're laying on that deathbed, folks.
Are you going to be fearful?
Are you going to turn your back on God then?
Why not turn to God now and enjoy what life you have left here knowing Christ is your Savior?
I am so glad that I do.
I am so glad that God called me and I didn't turn away from him.
There were so many times when I didn't.
But I thank God he didn't give up on me.
He says, when your fear cometh as desolation and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish cometh upon you, then shall they call upon me?
But I will not answer.
They shall seek me early, but they shall not find me.
For that they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord.
They would none of my counsel.
They despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
That poor lady.
That reminds me of the verses of Legion, for there are many in the Bible.
There was a person possessed of many demons.
That reminds me of that.
Romans eight fourteen says For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Now, how can you be led by the Spirit of God if you are not following him?
And how can you be following him if your back is toward him?
How can you be following God if your face isn't following God The Holy Spirit came down on the face of the deep.
When you put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior.
The Holy Spirit comes down upon you as well.
It's a wonderful, wonderful thing You must be facing God.
And in order to be doing that, you must agree with Him.
And that means you must repent.
Which means a changing of the mind or to think differently.
And the only way you are going to realize that is to turn your face to God and believe the truth of God.
And he will send his Holy Spirit to enlighten you.
Romans 8, 16, the Spirit with a capital S The Spirit itself beareth witness with our Spirit that we are the children of God.
Without God's Holy Spirit bearing witness with your Spirit, you are none of his.
And you are on a one-way path to be separated from God for an eternity. where darkness is and will be for an eternity.
You might say, well that's just fine with me, Brother Doug.
I like the dark.
Well, let me mention that not only darkness will be there, but God's word tells us that there will be torment as well.
Let's close today by reading the story of the rich man and Lazarus.
That's going to be in the book of Luke, chapter 16.
And we got y'all marked.
You can follow along with us.
Luke chapter 16.
We're starting verse 19.
Not only darkness but torment Luke 16, 19.
Jesus is telling this story.
He said there was a certain rich man.
Don't give no name.
Doesn't have to.
There was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen.
In the Bible, the color purple is a signal of law, is a signal of royalty.
Royal.
Purple.
There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of swords, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table.
He said out there wanting something to eat.
The rich man had plenty, as we can see here from the beginning.
Rich man had plenty.
More than enough.
And the beggar sat outside, full of sores, hungry.
This man didn't have to go far.
He sat out right out of his gate.
And it wasn't like the man had to go across town.
He was right there.
I imagine every time the rich man came in and out of his house, the beggar man was probably sitting there.
And designed to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table.
Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sword.
Man's in pretty bad shape, ain't he?
And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom.
The rich man also died.
Won't y'all see something there?
The poor man died And the rich man died.
We came from the dust.
To dust we shall prefer.
Each and every one of us.
Even the people watching on the web world over there.
Each and every one of us are going to die someday.
We're going to lay our heads down for the last time.
Not to get up again.
They both died, the rich man and the beggar.
And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom.
The rich man also died and was buried.
It doesn't say nothing about he was carried by the angels.
Said the poor man was, the beggar.
I can't help but think, if you think about it folks, each and every one of us are beggars.
We're all beggars.
If you think about it, there's none of us born knowing Jesus Christ as our Savior.
None of us.
Luke 16, 23 says, and in hell, talking about the rich man, and in hell he lift up his eyes.
Being in torments, torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me.
And seeing Lazarus That he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.
For I am tormented in this flame.
All the rich man's stuff that he had, every bit of.
Wasn't getting him a drink of water, was it?
None of it.
All that he had in this world.
It's not helping him one bit right now.
But Abraham said, son, remember that thou in thy lifetime Receivest thy good things, and likewise Lazarus, evil things.
But now is he comforted and thou art tormented.
He will be tormented forever and ever, for eternity.
There's no turning back, folks, once you leave this whole body.
And beside all this, between us and you, there's a great gulf fix. so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot.
No help.
No help in hell, folks.
Neither can they pass to us that would come from thence.
People in heaven cannot go to hell.
People in hell cannot go to heaven.
Done.
Once it's over here, folks, it's over.
Please think about that before you lay your head down tonight if you are not saved.
This could be it.
Please know Jesus as your Savior.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, Father, that thou would ascend him to my father's house.
This is the rich man.
Talking to Lazarus.
I mean talking to Abraham.
The rich man has now turned his face To help.
He is turning to help now that it's too late.
And now he says, I pray thee, Father, thou would ascend us him to my father's house.
For I have five brethren that he may testify unto them lest they also come into this place of torment.
Folks, I am standing here right now, telling you.
Do not go to the place of torment.
That choice was the rich man's choice.
That choice is your choice.
That choice is Brother Doug's choice.
I choose not to go.
Brother Adrian Roberts says I choose not to sit in the smoking section.
So the rich man said he has five brothers, brethren, that he wants Lazarus to go, yeah, Lazarus to go testify to them lest they also come into this place of torment.
The rich man is turning his face to Abraham, telling Abraham to please Santa Lazarus to tell his brethren about this place.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets.
Let them hear them.
Folks, you have Moses and the prophets.
Let them hear them Right here.
The Bible says he that believeth on him is not condemned.
But he that believeth not is condemned already.
Why?
Because he had not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
If the rich man would have just sought faith in Christ.
If he would have just sought faith in Christ, he would not be in the hell he is in now, tormented day and night, wanting somebody to come and dip their finger in some water and touch his tongue.
Instead, he would have been in the bosom of Abraham too, with a smile on his face.
I can't help but think that I'm gonna have a smile on my face when I get to Jesus.
I'm gonna be crying like a little baby, but I'm gonna have a smile on my face, folks.
And he said, Nay, Father Abraham.
Oh, Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them.
And he said, Nay.
Father Abraham, but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
There's our word.
They will change their mind And he said unto him, Abraham is come the rich man.
And he said unto him, if they hear not Moses and the prophets, Neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.
Folks, I'm going to tell you right now, one rose from the dead.
His name was Jesus Christ.
He went to the cross.
He died for your sins.
He suffered in agony.
He suffered the torment of hell on that cross for each and every one of us here today.
He died on that cross for your sins.
The Bible says for the wages of sins is death.
Jesus paid your wages in order that you may go free.
Jesus was taken off that cross.
He was laid in a tomb where he was dead.
He overcame death, folks, for us.
Each and every believer has that to look forward to.
We all have that to look forward to if you know Jesus as your Savior.
When you lay your eye, your head down the last time here.
You can lay it down knowing that if something happens to me tonight, I'm going to be resurrected again with Jesus.
You have nothing to fear I pray each and every one of you know Jesus as your Savior.
And you would like to.
The Bible says, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
His righteousness is Jesus Christ.
If you would like to sit down and talk about Jesus as your Savior, you're not sure.
You want to be sure.
I'll be more than glad to do that with you.
There's nothing I enjoy more than talking about God's word, I'm gonna tell you that.
Let's pray.
Don't be dismissed.
It's starting to get a little rowdy in here.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for this time you've brought us together here, Lord, and allowed us to come and hear your word, Lord.
Thank you for it.
The fellowship that we have here, Father, and for each and every person that comes to hear your word taught, Father.
I pray, Lord, that you would glorify here today, Father.
The saints were edified and that the laws were pointed to you, Father.
Lord, we sure thank you for each and every blessing you bestow upon us, Lord.
And we just thank you so much for Jesus, Father.
We want to pray for each and every person that helps here, Lord.
They push the time in, Lord, to help us to do all this, Lord.
Thank you, Lord, so much.
Want to pray for the caregivers that is here, Lord?
And pray, Father and Lord, that they'll just care for each and other person here the way you want them to be cared for, Lord.
Lord, we want to pray for that lady, Lord, that's having the spells, Lord.
The poor lady, Lord.
I don't know what's going on, Lord, but you know, and we pray, Lord, that you'll bless you with some peace, Father.
We pray for her, Lord.
We pray, Lord, that she knows Christ.
Each and every person here knows Christ, Father.
And if they don't, Lord, we pray that you'll draw them to the cross and show them Christ, Father.
We thank you and we love you so much, Father.
And in Jesus' name today, Lord, we pray, Amen.
