Alright, so good afternoon, everyone. Good afternoon. We have been going through the book of Genesis, verse by verse, and last week we stopped at verse 2 in chapter Chapter two which says, and on the seventh day God ended his work which He had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. pray heavenly father we thank you so much lord for each and every person that's come here today lord to hear your word father or we pray lord that you would just let your spirit teach us here today lord Thank you, Lord, for the cousin going away. And Father, we pray, Lord, that you can just limit the distractions, Father, and just help us all to focus on your word, Father. That each Hear that's here today, hear your word, Lord, and let each and every mind understand what you're trying to what you're telling us today father we sure thank you Lord for your precious word we thank you for your Holy Spirit and we thank you for Jesus Father and in his name Lord we pray amen Now, last week we learned that on the seventh day of creation, God did not rest because he was tired. And I use Isaiah 40, verse 28, which says, Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard that the everlasting God The Lord, that's a capital L-O-R-D, the creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary. There is no searching of his understanding. And I'll also use Psalms chapter 121, verses 2 through 4, which says My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. After God created the heaven and earth and all of creation, he did not rest because he was tired. And as we looked at the Hebrew translation for the word rest, we learn that it means to repose, which means to pause or cease. God paused, or you could say, cease from his word, because Because it was finished. If you set out to build a puzzle And you get that last piece of the puzzle in the correct spot with the other pieces, you have completed that puzzle. And there are no more pieces to put in. So it's time to cease working on it because it is completed. No more pieces to install. And God put all the pieces in in the beginning. So he ceased Or rested from working on creation, because as our previous verse says in Genesis 2. 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of thee. Now in our verse here In verse 2, chapter 2 of Genesis, let's look at the number 7. Our verse here in Genesis chapter 2 says, and on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made. And he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. The Hebrew word for seventh. is Sha Bah. Shah Bah. If my study was correct. When you start adding the TH, such as our word used here, which is seventh. It changes the Hebrew word as well, but for the sake of me pronouncing it in the Hebrew, we are going with just seven, which is Shah Ba Now when you see the number seven used in Scripture, you can associate that number sometimes with completeness. Or divine perfection or finished work. Because God finished his creation on the seventh day. God's creation was perfect. God's creation was complete. So just keep that in the back of your mind when you're reading God's word and the number seven appears to you. Now let's move on to verse 3 in the book of Genesis, chapter 2, which says, And God blessed the Sabbath day and sanctified it. Because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Now remember the Hebrew word for blessed. is bal ra it's either balra or ball ra and it means to kneel To kneel. When we kneel to God, we are showing reverence and respect. We are acknowledging him as over us. When God deals, he is showing favor And his, and he has a purpose for all of his blessings, folks. The things that God blesses you with, there is a purpose for those things. As I have been taught, the Old Testament truths Point us to a New Testament spiritual truth. And we are going to cover one here in just a minute. So please stay with me. So God bless the Sabbath day. And what else did God do? Our verse says, He sanctified it. He sanctified it. God blessed and God sanctified the Sabbath day. This word sanctified is translated from the Hebrew word call dash. Call dash. And it means to be, made, pronounced, or observe as clean. Now some other words we can use for the word sanctified are consecrate, hallow Or to be or keep holy or purify. Now there are some other words that interchange with the word sanctified, but I wanted to use the ones that you may have heard or read in the past. Now, why did God bless and sanctify the Sabbath day? The rest of our verse says, because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. When God was given. the ten commandments to the children of Israel. He said in the book of Exodus, chapter 20, verses 8 through 11. That's Exodus chapter 20, verses Verses 8 through 11. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Sixt days shalt thou labor and do all thy work. But the seventh day Is the Sabbath of the Lord Capital L R D Thy God In it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter thy manservant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. That's pretty much everything. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day. Wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the Sabbath. the children of Israel saying Verily my Sabbath ye shall keep for it is a sign between me and you through Throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am the Lord capital Lord that doth sanctify you Now only the Lord can sanctify or make you clean, folks. Only the Lord can purify you. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy unto you. Everyone that defileth it shall surely be put to death. For whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done, but in the Sabbath is the Sabbath of rest. Holy to the Lord. Whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever, for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed. Now that was Exodus 31, 15 through 17. I apologize for not mentioning that. But it just so happens. We got this one. Now the word Sabbath originates from the same Hebrew word Shah Bath. Shawbath. Anybody remember what that means? To repose. To repose. Which is the same definition we learn from the word rest. Or rested, as used here in Exodus 31. 17. The Sabbath is meant to give us rest from our work, folks, and reflect back on what God has blessed us with. And if you don't understand that Christ did all the work for you so that you can rest, then you are not celebrating the Sabbath, my dear friend. Now I told you that the Old Testament points to the New Testament. There is a greater spiritual truth here in the New Testament, coming from the Old Testament. So let's learn a spiritual truth here. From what I read. In traditional Jewish timekeeping, a day runs from sunset to sunset, meaning the seventh-day Sabbath. begins at sunset on Friday and ends nightfall on Saturday. From my understanding Which makes sense to me. Our Lord was in the tomb on the Sabbath, resting from his work, which he had finished on our behalf. John 19, 30. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished. And he bowed his head and gave up the goat. It is finished. Or you could say it is complete. Remember that last jigsaw piece? When it goes in that puzzle. It's complete. There was no more work for him to do as far as fulfilling all of God's laws and commandments on earth in order that by faith And what he did, we may obtain forgiveness through his death on the cross and our clothes. Jesus suffered for all humanity in an inhumane way. In order to give you rest, my friend. His sacrifice is complete And you are complete by faith. Colossians 2. 10. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. Matthew 28, 1 through 8. And we got some of y'all more that we do. Matthew 28, 1 through 8. In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. Now, if my research is correct, the first day of the week would have been a Sunday. Christ would have been crucified on a Friday and buried that evening, lay in the grave all Sabbath day, which would have been a Saturday. and rose early Sunday morning, which in my research points to a Sunday. He rose early the first day of the week, which is Sunday. Three days he laid in that tomb. I mean, yeah, three days. Friday, Saturday, and Rose, Sunday, and Natur He was crucified on a cross. He died on that cross. He was taken off of that cross and he was placed in a tomb. On the third day he rose from that tomb. That is the doctor folks. Now he did all that for youth. He did all that for youth. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. And for fear of him the keepers did shake and became as dead men. Pilot him put guards in front of the stone to keep anybody from going in there and taking him out. That was a request by the the religious folk back in those days, the Pharisees. So the keepers of the tomb there, they all ran off. They got scared and ran away. For fear of him, the keepers did shake and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified He is not here, for he is risen, as he said Come, see the place where the Lord lay, and go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and behold, he goeth before you into Galilee. There shall ye see him. Lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy and did run to bring his disciples word. Folks, that's all I'm trying to do. I'm trying to bring his disciples word. Disciple is a pupil. I'm telling you that Jesus Christ raised from the dead. That's all good. That's what we should be doing for others. Tell them that Jesus Christ died on the cross for them. He was placed in that tomb, and on the third day he rose from that tomb. All for each of us. So we all may be forgiven through faith. For by grace are you saved through faith. That grace is the gift of God, Jesus Christ. That's all I'm doing. I'm telling you, Jesus Christ is the truth. Away in the light. And the no man cometh unto the Father, but through your healing folks. I believe one of the reasons why God wants you to know about the Sabbath is because that is the day Christ rested or ceased from his work in obtaining forgiveness for you and I. God rested from his work in the creation of the heaven and earth. God blessed mankind with a perfect world and gave mankind one rule to follow. Mankind turned their backs on that rule and sinned against God, thus bringing sin into the world. God sent his only begotten Son, God in the flesh, to come to this sinful world and fulfill what mankind could not on our behalf. He was mocked and scorned and tortured for each and every one of us and yet he never sinned. He never complained one bit about the treatment he received. He died a hideous death and received the wrath of God in our place. He was placed in a tomb and on the Sabbath day and on the third day, the new day of the week, he arose from the grave. Overcoming death. Those who believe in the gospel of Christ shall likewise be risen from the grave to spend eternity with the one who gave his life for you. He that believeth on him is not condemned. But he that believeth not is condemned already. For he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Romans 811 as we start to close folks but if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you that's God's Holy Spirit folks You receive God's Holy Spirit? You can by faith. But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall Also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you. The key right there folks is God's Spirit dwelling in you. We are the sons of God by faith. Without faith in Christ, you are merely the creation of God. You're not a child of God until you put your faith in the death of Jesus Christ for your sins. If you don't know Jesus Christ as your Savior, folks, I implore you to please get that God doesn't want anyone to perish, but that you would come to the cross. And seek Jesus Christ as you're so helpful. If you need some help with that, I will be more than glad to sit down and And we will open up God's word. And we will let God show you. He will open your eyes to Jesus if you truly want to know. If he'll open my eyes, I promise you he'll open your eyes. He will show you the only that the forgiveness you can only receive through him I said it once and we'll say to me, there's no joy like salvation joy, folks. Oh, to know Christ is the Savior. The joy that that brings to you. Heavenly Father, we thank you, Lord, for each and every person that's come today, Lord, to hear your word, Father. Lord, I pray, Lord, that you were glorified here today, Father, and that each and every person was pointed to Jesus, Father. Lord, we pray for those who are hard-hearted, Father, and don't want to believe in Christ, Father. And we pray, Lord, that you won't give up on Lord that you continue to draw them to the cross and we pray Lord that you prick their heart father and that they would be open to hear Lord and that they would be responsive to the draw to the cross Father Lord, we thank you so much, Lord, for each and every blessing you bestow upon us, Lord. And Lord, we thank you so much for all that you do, Father. For all you do is good, Lord. We pray, Lord, that your perfect will be fulfilled in each and every one of our lives that are here today, Lord. We want to pray for those who couldn't make it today, Lord, because they're just too sick to get out of bed, Lord. And we want to pray for those Lord who just don't care to come, Lord. We pray, Lord. You wouldn't give up on Lord. Father, we sure thank you so much, Lord. We thank you for the caregivers that are here, Father, and we pray, Lord, that they would take care of each and every person here the way you want them to be taken care of, Lord. That they would show your love to these folks here, Father. And that these folks here would show your love back to them, Lord. Just pray, Lord, we'll pray for Brother Larry, Lord, his wife. They're going through their medical issues right now, Father. Pray for Brother Ray and his wife as well. Lord, we want to thank you so much for Brother Bo standing in, Lord. the forest today, Lord. Thank you for the Camera Lady Coming, Lord. We'll just thank you for all that you do, Father. Pray that you would just help us stay the path, Father. Lord, we want to thank you so much that you put the people that you put in our lives to encourage us, Father. And we pray, Lord, that you'll walk and just work through us, Lord, to encourage others. Lord in Jesus' name we want to pray here today, Lord, amen.
